About KAOS

We’re here to support caregivers

navigating mental health crises.

What is KAOS

KAOS stands for Knowledge, Advocacy,
Outreach and Solutions.

It was created for family members and loved ones caring for someone experiencing serious mental illness.

When someone you love is in crisis, the system can feel overwhelming, fragmented and nearly impossible to navigate.

KAOS exists to help caregivers understand their options, take the right steps and find real support so they don’t have to figure it out alone.

Loving someone through mental illness comes with a unique kind of grief- one that doesn’t always have a clear beginning or end.

What caregivers are carrying

This is called ambigious loss.

It’s the feeling of losing someone who’s still here.

The confusion, the fear, the unpredictability- watching someone you love change and not knowing if or when they’ll come back.

And most of the time, caregivers are carrying this alone.

Why KAOS was created

KAOS was built from lived experience- supporting a close family member through repeated mental health crises without a clear roadmap or consistent support.

Navigating hospitalizations, trying to find treatment, managing the unknown and carrying the emotional weight of it all can feel impossible.

Caregivers are often the ones answering the calls, managing the chaos and holding everything together while quietly carrying fear, exhaustion and uncertainty.

Even when progress is made, the experience doesn’t just disappear.

KAOS was created to make this process clearer, more
supported and less isolating- for the people who are living it.

Our Mission

To ensure no caregiver faces a mental health crisis alone. We provide guidance, resources, advocacy, and practical support to help families navigate the mental health system, understand their options, access appropriate care, and take the next step forward when they need help most.
